Ball Valve Manufacturers in India

A ball valve provides fast operation, tight shut-off and low pressure loss through a 90° rotating ball. Speciality Valve manufactures ball valve for liquid, gas, steam and industrial process applications, with configurations based on pressure, temperature, materials and connections. Choosing Ball Valve Manufacturers in India involves considering valve size, pressure rating, temperature, materials, end connection, sealing requirements and flow conditions.

What Is a Ball Valve and How Does It Work?

A ball valve features a spherical plug that has been bored with holes and is placed between two seats. Whenever the bore is aligned with the pipeline, the flow media travels through the valve. Turning the stem 90° ensures that the solid part of the ball blocks the flow path.

Line pressure pushes either the ball or the seat to the sealing surface of the downstream section. Line pressure, temperature, differential pressure, seat material, ball surface finish, and stem sealing are some factors influencing shut-off performance. Ball valves are generally used for isolation purposes.

Ball Valve Designs Available for Process and Pipeline Service:

  • Cast Iron and Cast Steel Ball Valve: Isolates compatible services like water, utility, hydrocarbons, and process media.

  • Double Block and Bleed Ball Valve: Employs dual seals with an opening where one can check if the seal is tight.

  • Floating Ball Valve: Enables the ball to float towards the downstream seat using line pressure.

  • Forged Steel Ball Valve: Features compact construction for high-pressure and high-temperature pipe applications.

  • Fully Welded Ball Valve: Lacks the body-flange connections and is ideal for buried pipelines or long pipelines.

  • Investment Casting Ball Valve: Features precision castings ensuring precise dimensioning and complex body construction.

  • Jacketed Ball Valve: Cycles heating/cooling fluid through the body for temperature control of the process medium.

  • Trunnion Ball Valve: Mechanical support for the ball reduces seat loading and torque in larger, higher-pressure valves.

Floating Ball Valve vs Trunnion Ball Valve:

In the case of floating ball valves, the ball gets actuated due to line pressure to operate against the downstream seat. This type of ball valve is most suitable for smaller and medium-sized valves and for those with moderate pressure.

Trunnion-mounted ball valve have their ball mounted on bearings. In this type of valve, the seats are made to approach the stationary ball. Trunnion designs may provide double block and bleed, seat injection, and body-cavity pressure relief.

Ball Valve Features for Leak-Tight Isolation:

Important design features include:

  • Blowout-resistant stem construction

  • Anti-static continuity between ball, stem, and body

  • Full-bore or reduced-bore flow passage

  • Soft, reinforced-polymer, or metal seating

  • Emergency stem and seat sealant injection where specified

  • Automatic body-cavity pressure relief

  • Fire-safe secondary sealing on approved designs

  • Locking device and actuator mounting arrangement

Ball Valve Standards and Pressure Testing:

Requirements that apply may include API 6D for pipeline valves, API 608 or ISO 17292 for metal ball valves, and ASME B16.34 for construction. Testing may include shell, high pressure closure, low pressure pneumatic, torque, cavity relief, and functionality. Fire-tested assemblies may conform to API 607 or API 6FA.

Where Is Industrial Ball Valve Used?

  • Oil and Gas

  • Petrochemical and Chemical

  • Power Generation

  • Water and Wastewater

  • Mining and Mineral Processing

How Do You Select the Right Ball Valve?

Check the type of media, flow rate, line size, pressure, temperature, bore size, seating material, connections, operating mechanism, leak tightness rating, and fire safe rating. Speciality Valve can examine body construction, floating or trunnion mounted, torque, actuation, testing, and documentation. Provide operating information for technical datasheet and quote.
