The thermostatic air vent rapidly discharges air during start up (membrane or bimetal type). The steam trap body is filled with cold condensate. The float rises and opens the valve when a certain water level is reached. The open valve and the open air vent are used to discharge the cold condensate. The air vent shuts when the condensate reaches saturation temperature, and the condensate is only discharged through the main valve orifice. Inside the trap body, the condensate forms a water seal, preventing live steam loss at all times.
The water level within the trap body controls the valve’s opening degree. Condensate is constantly discharged. The temperature cools slightly as air reaches the trap and accumulates at the top of the trap body, and the air vent, which opens slightly below saturation temperature, starts to discharge the air from the trap.
