Difference between Wafer butterfly valve and Lug butterfly valve

Wafer butterfly valve the body is annular with a few non-tapped centring holes, and it’s a Wafer-style butterfly valve. There are two sorts of Wafers, and there are four types.

The flange bolts are placed into the centering holes of the butterfly valve and the bolt holes of the two pipe flanges. The pipe flanges are brought together by tightening the flange bolts, and the butterfly valve is clamped between the flanges.

Lug butterfly valve there are so-called “ears” around the whole circle of the body of a Lug-style butterfly valve into which threads were tapped. The butterfly valve can then be tightened against each of the two pipe flanges using two separate bolts in this manner (one on each side).

The probability of relaxation due to thermal expansion is lower than with a Wafer-style valve since the butterfly valve is fastened to each flange on both sides with separate, shorter bolts. As a result, the Lug version is more suited to applications with significant temperature variations.
