Inconel and Incoloy are different nickel-alloy families, and grade selection should be based on the required balance of temperature resistance, mechanical strength and corrosion performance. Inconel grades are nickel-based alloys with different combinations of chromium, molybdenum and other alloying elements, so their high-temperature and corrosion performance varies significantly by grade. Inconel Ball Valve: Quarter-turn isolation for compatible high-temperature or corrosive process service. Inconel Butterfly Valve: Quarter-turn isolation or regulation for compatible process piping. All wetted parts and seals must be checked against the full pressure-temperature and chemical envelope. Body: Selected Inconel grade according to pressure, temperature and process requirements. Trim: Selected corrosion-resistant material compatible with the body grade and complete process conditions. Stem: Selected Inconel or nickel-alloy material according to mechanical, corrosion and temperature requirements. Seat / Seating Surface: Selected metallic seat material or hardfacing, where applicable, according to valve design and service conditions. Packing: Graphite, PTFE or other specified packing material selected within the applicable temperature and chemical limits. Gasket: Graphite, spiral-wound metallic/graphite or design-specific gasket arrangement. Fasteners: Alloy steel, stainless steel or specified nickel alloy according to temperature, pressure and design requirements. Materials for the wetted parts should be selected considering corrosion, erosion, temperature, pressure and process fluid conditions. Inconel 600: Selected for oxidation resistance and compatible high-temperature or alkaline duties; chloride service must be checked against the actual conditions. Inconel 625: Combines high strength with improved resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in compatible process media. High-Temperature Process Isolation – Inconel 600/601: Valve duties involving oxidation and sustained elevated-temperature exposure. Corrosive Chemical Service – Inconel 625: Isolation or regulation where localized-corrosion resistance and strength are required in compatible media. High-Temperature Petrochemical Process Lines: Valve duties where the selected Inconel grade provides the required thermal and mechanical performance. Offshore or Chloride-Bearing Service – Inconel 625 where suitable: Selected duties after complete chemistry and temperature verification. Severe Mechanical or High-Temperature Service – Inconel 718 where specifically required: Applications driven primarily by mechanical strength, subject to valve design and material suitability. Material verification should include grade identification and traceability, with PMI, material-certification review and hardness checks applied where specified. Testing can include: Positive material identification where specified Material certification and traceability review Material grade verification Dimensional inspection Hardness testing where required Hydrostatic body testing Seat leakage testing Functional operation checks Non-destructive examination where specified Pressure and leakage testing may follow API 598, ISO 5208 or applicable project requirements, while material certificates and specified PMI requirements can be used to verify the selected Inconel grade.
