An electric actuated butterfly valve combines a quarter-turn butterfly valve with an electric actuator for automated isolation or flow regulation. Available configurations can include wafer, lug and flanged butterfly valve designs according to the piping arrangement and service requirements. Selection should consider valve size, differential pressure, body/disc/seat materials, required operating torque, control mode and process conditions. Electric actuators rotate the butterfly disc through its operating range and can be configured for different control requirements. On-Off Actuator – Provides fully open or fully closed operation for automated isolation. Modulating Actuator – Positions the disc between open and closed states for flow regulation. Intelligent Actuator – May provide position feedback, programmable control functions, diagnostics and communication features depending on the selected actuator model. Manual Override – Allows local operation during power interruption on suitable actuator designs. Typical actuator specifications include torque output, voltage, frequency, phase, power supply, cycle time, 0–90° rotation, control signal and enclosure protection. Electric actuators are commonly mounted through an ISO 5211 interface. Actuator torque should be selected from the valve operating torque at the specified differential pressure, seat design and service conditions, with the required design margin. Electric actuated butterfly valve performance depends on the disc, shaft and sealing arrangement. Disc: Stainless steel, ductile iron or specified corrosion-resistant material according to fluid compatibility and valve design. Shaft: Stainless steel and other corrosion-resistant options are available for compatible applications. Seat: EPDM, NBR, PTFE, FKM and metal-seated arrangements can be selected according to temperature and media. Sealing Arrangement: Resilient seating is used within the applicable chemical, pressure and temperature limits, while metallic seating may be selected for suitable higher-temperature or severe-service duties. Material selection depends on pressure, temperature, fluid compatibility and corrosion conditions. For demanding services, the body, disc, shaft and seat can be specified according to the process medium and operating conditions. Super Duplex: Selected for compatible severe chloride-bearing or corrosive service according to the required material performance. Nickel Alloys: Selected by specific alloy grade according to process chemistry, temperature and corrosion requirements. The product configurations include: Electric Actuated Wafer Butterfly Valve – Compact installation between mating pipeline flanges. Electric Actuated Lug Butterfly Valve – Lugged body arrangement for installation and maintenance flexibility. Electric Actuated Flanged Butterfly Valve – Flanged configuration where offered and applicable to the selected valve design. Wafer and lug configurations should be selected according to piping arrangement, flange compatibility, isolation/maintenance requirements and the approved valve design. Applicable requirements may include: API 609 – Applicable butterfly valve design requirements. ASME B16.34 – Where applicable to the selected construction. ISO 5211 – Actuator mounting interface where applicable. ASME B16.10 – Face-to-face dimensions where applicable. API 598 / ISO 5208 – Applicable pressure/leakage testing requirements. API 607 – Fire testing only for applicable fire-tested designs. ISO 15848 – Fugitive-emission requirements where specified. Testing may include: Shell pressure testing Seat leakage testing Valve cycling Actuator functional testing Torque verification Dimensional inspection Material verification Open/close functional test Travel and limit-position verification Torque setting/verification where applicable Position feedback verification where provided Modulating response check where applicable Manual override check where provided Electrical/control interface check according to actuator package Cooling Water Lines – Automated isolation in industrial cooling circuits. Water Treatment Piping – Flow isolation in filtration and treatment systems. Seawater and Desalination Lines – Selected material configurations for compatible seawater or saline service according to water chemistry, velocity and corrosion requirements. Oil and Gas Transfer Lines – Remote isolation of compatible hydrocarbon piping. Chemical Process Lines – Automated flow control using suitable body, disc and seat materials.
